Tips on How to Drink More Water

Water is so beneficial to as being properly hydrated can help concentration levels, going to sleep, reduce premature ageing, help with digestion and flush unwanted bacteria out of the bladder and kidneys. Below are some top tips help you drink more water.

Make Your Water More Exciting

Add a Splash of your favourite citrus or berry juice to your water to give it a bit more of punch.

Juicing 1 orange and half a mango will give you a tropical flavoured water. If you don’t want to juice your fruit then why not try crushing your fruit beforehand. This will help flavours disperse a lot quicker. Crush up some blueberries and raspberries together and put in the bottom of your glass, then add sparkling or still water. If you're looking for a milder flavour then we love flavouring our water with watermelon chunks and a little bit of mint.

Fruit Ice Cubes

Fruit Ice CubesFruit ice cubes are a perfect way to enhance the flavour of your water quickly. Try juicing several of your favourite fruits and putting them into your ice cube tray overnight. This nifty trick will mean you are consuming less sugar than if you were to have a glass full of sugary concentrated fruit squash. If you haven’t got time or the equipment to juice your own fruits, then why not try freezing fruit on its own and then using them as your ice cubes.

Herbal fruit Teas

Herbal Fruit Teas

Now drinking black teas or coffee isn’t going to hydrate you at all because they contain caffeine. But if you make your own herbal teas by just pouring boiling water over your favourite fruit and herbs, you will be able to create a drink you love drinking, which should make you drink more of it. You can also buy Herbal, fruit, green, white, and red teas but just make sure there’s no added caffeine in there. Go to your local supermarket and you will find they have so many different flavours to choose from.

Now that we have discussed how to make your water more interesting, we should really discuss how to make you remember to drink enough water.

Routine

Getting into a routine can be tricky especially if the habit doesn’t really come naturally. A great way to start a routine is by linking water with your daily activities. A good one to start with is every time you go to the bathroom, you should drink a glass of water. This will eventually condition your brain to remember to hydrate yourself.

Eat food that has a high water content

Snacking on food that has a high water content is great, but you can’t rely on just snacking to stay hydrated. Here are some of the fruits and veggies with the highest water content:

  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce
  • Celery
  • Radishes
  • Tomatoes
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cauliflower
  • Watermelon
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Broccoli
  • Grapefruit,
  • Apricots
  • Grapes

Make sure you have your favourites in your fridge for easy snacking. Please bare in mind when you cook any of these high water content produce, they will lose a lot of their water, so your best of eating them raw.

Keep a Bottle of Water Handy

This may seem obvious but make sure you always have a bottle of water on you, as this can actually make you drink much more water. One of the main reasons people don’t drink enough is because they don’t have a drink on them, this is especially poignant to those that travel a lot during their working day. Invest in a reusable water bottle that you can just throw in your bag and if you're driving a lot put the water bottle in one of the cup holders so it reminds you to take a sip once in while.
