The new VERT VSJ is the latest vertical juicer to be released by the established brand that is Omega. The VSJ is very similar to the Hurom HH 11 and features the same front end parts, including the double winged augur, upgraded durability screen and easy assembly parts. Like the Hurom this juicer also produces exceptionally high juice yields and does an excellent job on a wide range of ingredients. However, unfortunately the VSJ does not feature a pulp control lever on the front of the juicing chamber, which allows you to make smoothies or the convenient drying stand for parts. The VSJ makes up for this with a sharp and practical design though, so this can still be seen as a very good juicer, even if versatility isn't it's strength.

Optimised Juicing
The Omega VERT VSJ has a few key strengths, with one being its amazing juicing ability. Traditional slow speed horizontal masticating juicers have a much smaller surface area on the juicing strainer and augur which somewhat restricts the juice extraction process. Vertical designs changed that process by moving the juicing mechanism to the top of the juice extractor and using a strainer with a larger surface area which results in the juice passing through much quicker after it has been juiced. While still operating at only 43 RPM vertical masticating juicers can produce a litre of juice in about half the time it takes in traditional horizontal machines. The VSJ uses this vertical design better than most and in terms of yields it's tough to beat.
In the past customers who have been frustrated by the slow speed of horizontal masticating juicers have opted for centrifugal juicers however high speed juicers oxidise the juice quickly resulting in poorer nutritional value, very little enzymes and no storage value, however with the latest range of vertical juicers you get the benefit of much faster processing times with juice that can be stored for 48 hours with minimal loss of nutrients. Another benefit in having the juicing mechanism at the top of the juicer means the produce you feed in pretty much self-feeds as the augur screw draws the produce in, eliminating the need to use the food pusher with anything but leafy greens.
Durable Design
The augur and screen in the VSJ are made from GE-Ultem material which is food safe, BPA free and 8 times stronger than the normal material used on juicers. Vertical Juicers like the Omega VRT VSJ are also quick and simple to clean. Simply pour in water after you've made your juice and you can flush out much of the residual pulp, leaving only a minutes worth of sink scrubbing.
*The Omega VSJ843R series is designed for the UK/European market and has the same juicing technology and performance as the VSJ843Q versions in the USA however the shape of the motor cover is marginally different.
Took delivery of my new juicer about an hour ago and currently enjoying my first juice.
I bought a fusion juicer a couple of months ago to replace a centrifugal one I had, thinking it would be better but sadly disappointed. Far too much very wet pulp and useless at juicing greens.
The Omega VSJ843 on first use is in a league of it's own. Yes you have to chop things up and it takes a little longer but in my opinion a tiny price to pay for what tastes absolutely amazing. It coped easily with everything I put through: greens, apples, celery, ginger, carrots, beetroot, cucumber, limes & produced about a third of the pulp that I was getting with the fusion & consequently much more juice which is delicious.
This is definitely one of those "you get what you pay for" moments!
